Terms of Use

Budget Quest turns your real budget into a game. These terms are the rules for using it. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data.

Who can use Budget Quest

Accounts are for players born at least 14 years before the current year. New accounts in Quebec are for players born at least 15 years before, so they are 14 or older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, please use Budget Quest with a parent or guardian's permission. Players under 18 always have the full chat filter on, and their online status starts hidden. Someone too young for an account can still use the app on their own device without one.

Your account

• Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
• Use a display name that isn't offensive and doesn't pretend to be someone else.
• You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting it removes your data, as the Privacy Policy describes.

Budget Quest is not financial advice

The app helps you track your own money and set your own limits. Its numbers, suggestions, lessons and game rewards are for information and motivation only. They are not financial, tax, legal or investment advice. Before a big money decision, check your bank's own records and, if you need to, talk to a qualified professional.

Numbers in the app are only as accurate as what you enter or what your bank shares. Bank data can arrive late, be incomplete, or be categorized wrongly. Your bank's records are the official ones.

Bank connections

Connecting a bank is optional and runs through Plaid, under Plaid's own terms. Budget Quest only reads your accounts. It never moves money, makes payments, or sees your bank password. You can disconnect a bank at any time in Settings.

Gold, XP and other game items

• Gold, XP, levels, ranks, streaks, shields, seals, titles, wardrobe items and other game items exist only inside the game. They have no real-money value, can't be bought with real money, and can't be sold, traded or cashed out.
• We may change how the game works, including rewards, prices and items, to keep it fair and fun.
• Cheating (for example, changing the app or its requests to give yourself rewards) isn't allowed. We may remove rewards gained this way, and repeated cheating can lead to your account being closed.

Friends, chat and the Tavern

• Be kind. No harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, spam, scams, or asking people for money or bank details.
• Slurs and hate speech are always filtered. Players under 18 always have the full chat filter on.
• You can block or report any player. Reports are reviewed by the Budget Quest team, who may mute players or close accounts that break these rules.
• What you write in chat is your responsibility. Don't share passwords, bank details or anything you wouldn't want the other person to keep.

Guilds and shared costs

A guild lets a group record shared costs and see who owes whom. Budget Quest keeps the records only. It doesn't hold, send or collect money, and it can't make anyone pay. Settling up happens between members, outside the app. Shared records stay visible to the guild after a member leaves, so the history still adds up.

The app itself

• Please don't try to break, overload, copy or reverse-engineer the service, or get into other players' data.
• The Budget Quest name, art, sounds and code belong to Budget Quest. The categories, notes and names you create stay yours.
• We work hard to keep the app running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. The app works offline and syncs when you're back online.
• We may update or stop features. You can export your transactions from Settings (Your data) at any time.

Responsibility

To the extent the law allows, Budget Quest is provided "as is", and we aren't responsible for money decisions you make using it, or for losses caused by wrong or late bank data. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws where you live.

Ending your use

You can stop using Budget Quest and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Where we can, we'll tell you why.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app grows. Material changes will be shown here with a new "last updated" date, and in the app when they matter to you.
